Dr. Sankha Chakrabortty is an accomplished academician and researcher currently serving as Assistant Professor at the School of Chemical Engineering & Biotechnology, KIIT Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India. A Gold Medalist Ph.D. from NIT Durgapur, he has over 8 years of post-Ph.D. experience in teaching, research, and technology development.
His research interests span membrane technology, water and wastewater treatment, CO₂ capture and conversion, biomass valorization, and sustainable chemical processes. He has led and participated in major projects sponsored by DST, UGC, Ministry of Mines, NALCO, and NMDC, with cumulative grants exceeding INR 6 crores.
Dr. Chakrabortty has published more than 79 peer-reviewed journal articles, authored and edited multiple books with international publishers (Springer, CRC Press), and holds several granted patents, including a US patent. His academic metrics include h-index 24 and over 1900 citations, reflecting his impact in the field.
He serves as Associate Editor for prestigious journals including Scientific Reports (Nature), South African Journal of Chemical Engineering (Elsevier), and PLOS Water, and is on the editorial boards of more than 15 reputed international journals.
In addition to his academic and research pursuits, Dr. Chakrabortty is an active Proposal Evaluator for various funding schemes. Notably, he has evaluated over 150 proposals under BIRAC's Biotechnology Ignition Grant (BIG) schemes (Calls 17–21), demonstrating his expertise in assessing the scientific, technical, and translational potential of R&D proposals in biotechnology and environmental engineering domains. He also serves as an expert reviewer and external examiner for M.Tech theses at institutions like ICT-IOCL Bhubaneswar and Jalna and also participated as expert in Goa State Resaecrh Board for the evaluation of the project.
